Art of Duo: If Music be the Food of Love
On July 18th at 5:30 p.m. MVCMS presents the remarkable combined talents of cellist Eunghee Cho and pianist Jung-A Bang in concert with “Art of Duo: If Music be the Food of Love” at the West Tisbury Congregational Church. These musical offerings explore works that fuse fiery virtuosity with the expressive humanity of both instruments.
In a manner identical to a mixtape, the artists present a special selection of movements from larger works that combine to convey the listener on a musical journey through the minds of George Gershwin, Samuel Coleridge-Taylor, Amy Beach, and Nadia Boulanger with Kreisler's Liebeslied ("Love's Sorrow") at the heart of the mixtape. Richard Strauss's Sonata for Cello and Piano, Op. 6 presents a wonderful dichotomy between heroism and vulnerability ultimately unified through a gorgeous lyricism embraced by the duo partnership. The program concludes with the epitome of passion and beautifully reckless abandon in duo form: Astor Piazzolla's Le Grand Tango.
