Ninth Year of our Annual Artist in Residence
Palaver Strings

MVCMS welcomes Palaver Strings as our 2026 Artist in Residence, continuing a program that brings world class musicians to Martha’s Vineyard for several days of performances, school visits, and community engagement.
During their 2026 residency, students enjoy three days of coaching with professional musicians, as well as a free Community Concert on April 1 at 6 PM at Featherstone Center for the Arts. Featuring musicians: Grant Houston, Maya French, Briana Fischler, and Nicholas Johnson MV Chamber Music Society has hosted a Resident Artist ensemble at least annually since 2017. The visiting ensemble teaches in the schools, provides support to the school ensembles and teachers, and offers a free community concert for families and local islanders. The AIR is part of the Chamber Music Society's long time commitment to supporting the All-Island Strings program also including free instrument loans, lesson scholarships and an annual high school scholarship. We are always interested in talking with supporters about the needs of the strings program and our financial needs to support these on-going programs. |
Music Education and Community Engagement
Our "Music Education and Community Engagement" project brings ensembles to the island monthly during the school year to support Island Strings teachers, helping students build skills and confidence in their individual playing and in ensembles. Musicians offer a concert to inspire the entire community at days end.
Generously funded in our inaugural year 2024-2025 by The West Chop Community Fund.
We are currently seeking funding to continue this program for school year 2025-2026.

The Martha’s Vineyard Chamber Music Society has produced concerts for both visitors to and residents of the Island of Martha’s Vineyard, Massachusetts for over 50 years. The MVCMS is also very active in encouraging classical music stringed instrument education for Island school children.

The Summer Evening Concerts and our Education Programs including Instrument Loans, Lesson Scholarships, Artist in Residence, and Project Cello, all depend on generous donors and grant funders.
